If you wanted drama at the Xfinity Mobile Arena last night, you got it. In a game that had everything—star power, blown calls, and free basketball—the Philadelphia 76ers showed the kind of resilience we’ve been waiting to see, rallying to defeat the Houston Rockets 128-122 in overtime.

It wasn’t pretty, and it definitely wasn’t without stress, but the Sixers (24-19) clawed their way back to .500 at home (12-12) behind a monstrous performance from their dynamic duo and a clutch return from Paul George.

The “No-Call” That Almost Cost Them

Let’s address the elephant in the room immediately: The end of regulation was a mess. With the game tied at 115, Tyrese Maxey drove to the rack for a potential game-winner with seconds ticking down. Kevin Durant met him at the rim for a block that looked like a clear goaltend to everyone in the building—except the guys wearing stripes.

Head Coach Nick Nurse couldn’t challenge it (inside the final two minutes), and the game went to OT. In the past, we’ve seen Sixers teams fold after a bad break like that. Not this time.

Trendon Watford reportedly kept the huddle calm, shouting “Five-minute game!” and the team responded. They opened overtime on a 5-0 run—sparked by a massive Paul George three—and never looked back.

The Stars Showed Out

You need your big dogs to eat in games like this, and they feasted.

  • Tyrese Maxey: The Franchise dropped 36 points and dished out 10 assists. He was the engine in overtime, scoring six of the Sixers’ 13 points in the extra frame.
  • Joel Embiid: Just another casual triple-double for the big fella. 32 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. He controlled the pace and punished Houston whenever they tried to go small.
  • Kelly Oubre Jr.: The unsung hero of the night. Oubre poured in 26 points, providing that crucial third scoring punch that kept Philly afloat when the offense stagnated.

PG Returns

Paul George was back in the lineup after missing two games (knee management). While he looked a little rusty shooting the ball (10 points), he hit the shot that mattered most to kick off overtime. Having him back on the floor opens up the spacing for Maxey and Embiid to operate, and we saw that chemistry flash in the clutch.

The Rookie Steps Up

We have to give a nod to the youngster, VJ Edgecombe. He didn’t just fill space; he made a massive hustle play in overtime, grabbing an offensive board and getting a put-back layup that swung the momentum permanently in Philly’s favor.

The Bottom Line

The Rockets (26-16) are no joke this year—Durant had 36 and Amen Thompson is a problem—but the Sixers proved they can take a punch and keep swinging.

This is the kind of gritty, “figure it out” win that builds character for a playoff run. The Sixers are back in the win column, and despite the officiating headache, the vibes in South Philly are good this morning.
